The fifth academic reports of the College of Forestry in 2019

In order to strengthen academic exchanges, create a strong academic atmosphere, Professor Ian Convery and Senior Lecturer Andrew Weatherall from University of Cumbria in UK was invited by the College of Forestry to give speeches on 8th October. Welcome all the faculty and students to be present for learning and communication!

Keynote report 1:

Title: Rewilding for a global eco-civilisation.

Time: 15:00pm, Oct 8, 2019

Speaker: Professor Ian Convery

Place: Room 101, Center for Faculty Development (West building of ibrary)

Introduction of speaker: Ian Convery, professor on Nature Conservation & Sociology, co-chairing the Rewilding Task force of Committee of Environmental Management (CEM) in International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). He has published over 65 papers, book chapters, books and so on. He has applied for the award of snow leopard genetics of the Natural Environment Research Council and project for Species Reintroduction of South Cumbria. On 2017, Professor Ian Convery and Dr. Lees established Centre for National Parks & Protected Areas, and also be the professor-level experts for wildlife conservation. Furthermore, Professor Ian Convery is management group member of natural resources laboratory in AECOM (World top 500 landscape enterprises). He has obtained Multi-partner HLF award” for long-term devote himself to partnership and cooperation. He has maintained a series of cooperative relations with domestic and foreign countries. At present, professor Ian Convery undertake the undergraduate courses ” Intro to conservation biology”,  ”Protection policies and practices”, and Conservation and society, also he in charge of the course for Doctor of Science “Values, communities and sustainable management”.

Keynote report 2:

Title: Climate Smart Forestry research and teaching in the National School of Forestry, University of Cumbria.

Time: 16:20-18:00pm, Oct 8, 2019

Speaker: Senior Lecturer, Andrew Weatherall

Place: Room 101, Center for Faculty Development (West building of ibrary)

Introduction of speaker: Dr. Andrew Weatherall, Senior Lecturer, in charge of undergraduate courses Forestry, “Forestry management”, “Ecology and protection of forest land”. The research related with forestry done by doctoral students which he directed greatly impact Forestry research. His research focus on tree species selection, most of all is Picea Asperata. Also, as cooperative partner, Dr. Andrew Weatherall is the co-director of Lake District National Park in World Heritage Area of United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
